After multiple summers paddling through the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, I grew very fond of my wooden canoe paddle, which references my connection the earth, my Minnesota heritage and history, and enjoyment of nature -not manipulated by manufactured and new fan-dangled tools that distract, but in a pure and wild form. Of course, a paddle's essential purpose: to propel oneself through water in a canoe, is of utmost importance and is made elegant by various wooden designs. However, if made out of a different material, a paddle's essential purpose may be completely altered and perhaps eradicated (especially if it's made out of concrete...and, if it's broken).
